Mr. Charlie Johnson
Headmaster
Faculty, Students, Academics & Recruiting
As the headmaster of Chesterton Academy of the Florida Martyrs, Charlie Johnson brings a rich and varied background in education, leadership, and service to the Catholic community. During the academy’s inaugural year, Charlie taught humanities, covering history, Euclidean geometry, literature, theology, and philosophy. His dedication to education is rooted in a profound love for guiding students toward a deeper understanding and encounter with the living God. Charlie holds a BA in Christian Apologetics and is currently completing a Master of Education in School Administration through the University of Mary, further deepening his commitment to faith-based leadership and classical education. His journey in faith and service includes co-teaching Parish School of Religion (PSR) and co-leading with his wife two youth group pilgrimages to Italy and Poland. His leadership extended to serving as men’s leader for the Catholic Argos at the University of West Florida for the 2023–2024 school year. A convert from Protestantism and a former Calvinist, Charlie’s spiritual journey was profoundly influenced by the writings of Peter Kreeft, C.S. Lewis, and G.K. Chesterton. Their works inspired him to rewrite his understanding of the faith and embrace Catholicism. Before joining Chesterton Academy, Charlie had a successful career in the legal and financial services industry, bringing a wealth of experience and a disciplined approach to his educational endeavors. Additionally, he operated a Catholic spirituality and lifestyle website for four years, which featured Catholic writers from across the country and provided a platform for sharing the beauty and depth of the Catholic faith. Above all, Charlie’s greatest joy is his family. He is a devoted husband and father to three small children. His personal motto, "Veni Sancte Spiritus", (Come, Holy Spirit!), encapsulates his mission to infuse every aspect of his life and work with the guiding presence of the Holy Spirit, striving to lead his students toward a transformative encounter with God’s love.
